Dec 9 4:23: Mushers have slowed down but
are expected to start rolling in within the hour.
UPDATE Dec 9 2:40
PM: The first musher is
expected to arrive at the MRL checkpoint sometime around
4 or 4:30 pm AST. Musher Carol Blevins
is taking a wide lead, moving at about 11.5 miles per
hour. The majority of the teams are moving
at about 10 mph. With
Julie Sricker & Heidi Suter taking the back of the
pack position. Kari Skogen was forced to
scratch due to a broken sled.

Meier's Lake Lodge and are on the trail. Temperatures
are steady at 20 degrees and mostly clear skies.

Start time 10:00 am at the Meier’s Lake Roadhouse,
Meier’s Lake. Mass start. Mandatory pre-race
mushers meeting @ 8:00 am Saturday December 9th
at Meier’s Lake Roadhouse. Mile 171 Richardson
Hwy. Purse:
Minimum Purse $3000.00 Divided between top 5 finishers
1st place - $1000.00 / 2nd place- $800.00/ 3rd place-
$ 600.00/ 4th place- $400.00 5thplace - $200.00
Prizes will also be given for Veterinary care, Sportsmanship,
Red Lantern award, and
A special “Woman of GIN GIN 120 2006”
award. Each musher finishing GG120 will receive
a race completion certificate. |

All mushers are in!!!! Judy Currier placed
1st arriving at Meiers Lake Roadhouse at 8:15 Sunday
morning with Stephanie Smelcer picking up the "Red
Lantern"arriving at the finish line sometime
Sunday afternoon (no official time yet). Trails
today were in much better shape due to temperatures
rapidly dropping allowing the snow set up. Stay
tuned for awards.
DEC 11 11 am
Remaining mushers are 9 miles outon the
trail. There will be a banquet and awards presentaion
tonight for all participants.
DEC 10 8 pm
All
mushers are into to MaClaren Lodge & resting
the first musher, Judy Currier can leave at Sunday
12:31am.

All but 3 mushers are into MaClaren Lodge. The remaining
mushers have been spotted about 2-3 miles out.

MaClaren Lodge
Race director Zoya DeNure reports mushers are expected
in within the hour at Maclaren Lodge. In the lead
was Michelle Phillips, followed by Colleen Robertia,
with Anjanette Steer holding third with a strong
team.

Trail
breakers: VERY tough going-blizzard conditions out
here-zero visibility in long stretches...lots of
snow..snowing about an inch an hour; maclaren already
got 6" today....the loop that runs off the
denali hwy is 18 miles thru hills,overflow and more
hills...we were breaking trail to get here and we'll
be breaking trail ahead of the mushers..on the way
out.
DEC 10th 6am:
Lots of excitment in the air as mushers and handlers
drop dogs this morning at 6L00am ; Crazy Dog Kennels
counted over 140 dogs lastnight as mushers arrived.
This morning is hustle and bustle at Crazy dog kennels,
with mushers, handlers, race support and volunteers...last
evening doors opened for all at 4:00pm thru midnight
with dinner, baked cookies, sodas..ect. Mushers
Jessica Hendricks, Gerry Willomitzer, Sebastion
Schnuelle were among some of the evenings company
that gathered around for a good time. Volunteers
Heather Rogers, Rebecca, Claudia all pitching in
together making breakfast this morning before musher
meeting. John worked last minute on the trail, staking
out mass start last evening....13 teams confirmed..it's
24F and snowing in Paxson!

Route: Race is to be a mass start
on Paxson Lake at approximately milepost 180 Richardson
Hwy. Trail goes north on Paxson Lake then up the Gulkana
River to the Denali Hwy near Paxson Lodge. Then west
along the Denali Hwy to approx. mile 30.5 where it
loops north & west through the mountains for approx.
18 miles before return to the Denali Hwy at milepost
40. Race continues on the Denali Hwy to Maclaren River
Lodge at milepost 42. There will be a mandatory layover
of 8 hours at Maclaren River Lodge. Return route will
be the same as outgoing except the race will continue
on Paxson Lake and wind through some small hills and
trees- finishing up at Meier’s Lake Roadhouse.
Outgoing trail will be approximately 56 miles—return
route will be approx. 68 miles.
Teams:
This race is open to women participants 18 yrs and
older. Entries will be limited to the first 35 teams
signed up. 10 dog max, 8 dog minimum. All participants
must be in good standing with GIN GIN 120 organizers.
No dog drops, drivers will be responsible for their
own dog food & gear throughout the race. There
will be no food drop at Maclaren. A sleeping area
& $15.00 meal ticket will be provided for you
by the race organization at Maclaren River Lodge.
Straw for dogs will also be provided by the race organization.
