• Veterinary Care Award: Coleen Robertia
  This highly coveted award is presented to the musher who has best demonstrated outstanding care of her team throughout the race, while remaining competitive. Criteria has been determined for the award. Upon arrival in Meier's Lake Roadhouse, each of the teams will be judged based on that criteria.

• Sportsmanship Award: Carol Blevins - Fairbanks, Ak
  The sportsmanship award is been presented by the GinGin 120 Committee and sponsors to the person chosen by her peers as the best sportsman on the trail.
  
  
• Red Lantern: Stephanie Smelcer - Fairbanks, Alaska
  The Red Lantern Award, presented by Daily's Web Design Chugiak, Alaska traditionally goes to the last musher across the finish line. The award is traditionally presented at the Banquet.
  
  During the days of Alaska sled dog freighting and mail carrying, dog drivers relied on a series of roadhouses between their village destinations. Since these mushers ventured out in most all kinds of weather, for safety reasons they found the idea that pilots rely on, known today as the flight plan. Word was relayed ahead that a musher and team were on the trail, and a kerosene lamp was lit and hung outside the roadhouse. It not only helped the dog driver find his destination at night, but more importantly, it signified that a team or teams were somewhere out on the trail. The lamp was not extinguished until the musher safely reached his destination.

  All too often, public and media think of the race as being over when the winner crosses the finish line, yet there are still teams on the trail. We hope you will find this often overlooked part of the race worthy of your attention. There are many very good stories about these other mushers on the trail.

Start: 10:00 am Mile 180. Richardson Hwy. Mass Start to be held on Paxson Lake.

Mandatory pre-race mushers meeting
8:00 am Saturday December 10th at Meier’s Lake Roadhouse. (Mile 171 Richardson Hwy)

Purse: Minimum Purse $3000.00 Divided between top 5 finishers

• 1st place - $1000.00
• 2nd place- $800.00
• 3rd place- $ 600.00
• 4th place- $400.00
• 5thplace - $200.00

Prizes will also be given for Veterinary care, Sportsmanship, Red Lantern award, and A special “Woman of GIN GIN 120 2005” award. Each musher finishing GG120 will receive a race completion certificate.

Route: Race is to be a mass start on Paxson Lake at approximately milepost 180 Richardson Hwy. Trail goes north on Paxson Lake then up the Gulkana River to the Denali Hwy near Paxson Lodge. Then west along the Denali Hwy to approx. mile 30.5 where it loops north & west through the mountains for approx. 18 miles before return to the Denali Hwy at milepost 40. Race continues on the Denali Hwy to Maclaren River Lodge at milepost 42. There will be a mandatory layover of 8 hours at Maclaren River Lodge. Return route will be the same as outgoing except the race will continue on Paxson Lake and wind through some small hills and trees- finishing up at Meier’s Lake Roadhouse. Outgoing trail will be approximately 56 miles—return route will be approx. 68 miles.

Teams: This race is open to women participants 18 yrs and older. Entries will be limited to the first 35 teams signed up. 10 dog max, 8 dog minimum. All participants must be in good standing with GIN GIN 120 organizers. No dog drops, drivers will be responsible for their own dog food & gear throughout the race. There will be no food drop at Maclaren. A sleeping area & $15.00 meal ticket will be provided for you by the race organization at Maclaren River Lodge. Straw for dogs will also be provided by the race organization.
