Gin 120 |
This
is a Mid-distance Sled dog race for Women
athletes.
Paxson, AK welcomes the 1st Women’s distance dog race
happening Dec. 10-11th 2005 hosted by Zoya DeNure; local resident
and musher. The Gin Gin 120 was conceived as an avenue of opportunity
for women to enter into the sport of dogmushing, feeling less
intimidated by men (dog drivers) in numbers. Today, men drive
many of the sports’ most dominant dog teams. Interested
and currently active in women’s issues, Zoya’s
intention is not to discriminate, but rather celebrate women
in the sport. Exploring the idea of a women’s mid-distance
dog race as an annual event; Zoya understands as a woman dog
driver what she would like to see evolve within the sport—and
that’s “growth, opportunity & fresh faces.”
“ This is about women athletes getting together on common
ground; to compete & have fun,” adds Zoya. ‘Bringing
new women onto the trail with a sense of confidence &
competency,” while running their dog teams thru some
of the most beautiful, yet challenging terrain in Alaska.
This race will give all women the chance to excel while giving
the additional opportunity to meet and interact with others
with the same goal.
